Will Biden End For-Profit Prisons?
President Joe Biden says he’s a capitalist. For-profit prisons aren’t compatible with free-market capitalism.
“I’m a capitalist,” President Joe Biden declared during his recent State of the Union Address.
In the annual address, Biden’s second since becoming President, Joe Biden laid out his strategy for the next year and provided this tidbit of insight into his political philosophy.
There is an underlying principle in free market capitalism that never gets the attention it deserves. It’s a saying criminals use so often, it’s become a morality tale filmmakers from Martin Scorsese to Quentin Tarantino have used to great effect on the big screen.
“Get greedy, get caught.”
Oil companies banked record-breaking profits during the post-Covid-19 cleanup and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The wealthiest 1% of the 1%, who doubled their wealth during Covid — in some cases profiting from the long-term closures for which these same entities clamored via media outlets they also owned: It’s no wonder these interests were singled out by Joe Biden during his speech as worthy of additional taxation.
