In the aftermath of yet another surprise Election Day trouncing by once and future President Donald Trump, it is the question percolating every post-mortem election debate in progressive circles: Who is to blame for Trump’s bruising victory?

Initially, blame casting seems to be going in one of two ways within the Democratic Party.

President Joe Biden’s surrogates and supporters believe the sitting president would have performed better than Vice President Kamala Harris and could have eked out a win for Democrats, whatever his challenges.

“In the wake of a crushing loss, some Democrats contend the much-reviled president would have fared better than his VP,” explained Martin for POLITICO.
