Who Will Win the Working Class Hero Vote?
Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are chasing working-class votes from Wisconsin to Pennsylvania.
“Can Harris Stop Blue-Collar Workers From Defecting to Donald Trump?” wondered Eyal Press grimly for the New Yorker on September 30, 2024.
“She’s touting the Biden Administration’s strong record on labor,” Press fretted. “But it might not be enough to win over voters who distrust Democrats as elitists.”
“The shifting political allegiances of blue-collar voters have made it increasingly difficult for Democrats to compete in, much less carry, parts of the country they once dominated,” Press added.
“Some progressive analysts have argued that, in an age of rising inequality, embracing a more populist economic agenda is the only way that Democrats can hope to win back the working class,” concluded Press.
While Vice President Kamala Harris struggles to establish her bona fides with America’s cash-strapped working-class voters — and with time running short between now and Election Day — former Donald Trump has been doggedly courting the working-class vote all year.
“Inside the Trump Campaign’s Hidden Ground Game,” revealed Vivian Salama for the Wall Street Journal back on July 21, 2024.
