What Does Mayor Brandon Johnson Have in Store for Chicago?
The Mayor’s transition team issued 223 pages of recommendations in July.
“We cannot build a more just future without acknowledging the injustices of the past,” began the contributors of Mayor Brandon Johnson’s transition team report. “Therefore, we begin this report by recognizing and acknowledging that Chicago resides on the ancestral homelands of the Odawa, Ojibwe, Potawatomi, Miami, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Sac, and Fox tribes. We also acknowledge the significant contributions of marginalized groups whose exploited labor played a crucial role in shaping our vibrant city.”
Mayor Johnson, elected only a few short months ago after defeating incumbent Mayor Lori Lightfoot, began work on this report as soon as he took office.
