War of Words Escalates Over Israel/Hamas Conflict

Russia: Israel has no right to defend itself against Hamas,” reported the Jewish News Syndicate yesterday. “Ambassador to the U.N. Vasily Nebenzya claims Israel is occupying the Gaza Strip.”

“Last week, Russia and China vetoed a U.S.-sponsored U.N. Security Council resolution condemning Hamas and calling for ‘humanitarian pauses’ in the fighting between Israel and the Palestinian terrorist group in Gaza,” reported the outlet.

It was terrible news for U.S. progressives who support Hamas despite the barbarity of the terror attack it perpetrated against Israel on October 7. The tenuous pro-Hamas ideological knot, twisting into an impossible pretzel over the past three weeks, may finally be fraying to the breaking point.

What are Hamas-sympathizers on the left to do? Siding with Vladimir Putin, before three weeks ago, was the gravest social blunder possible in many rarified progressive circles.

Many an affluent neighborhood is still awash with “As for me and my house, we support Ukraine,” signs.

Three weeks ago, however, on Ivy League college campuses and prestigious newsrooms, “Free Palestine” replaced “Free Ukraine” as…
