Trump Found Guilty: Democrats Down in the Polls

Good news, bad news for Democratic Party diehards.

There was perhaps good news for incumbent President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign today. A New York City court found his rival — former President Donald Trump — guilty on criminal charges related to a 2006 relationship with Stormy Daniels.

Mr. Trump has just become the first, and thus far, only — U.S. President to be convicted on criminal charges after leaving office. That he isn’t likely to be the last — and that Trump’s conviction is expected to be overturned by a higher court — are perhaps problems for another day.

There are still problems aplenty for the Democratic Party today, Trump’s legal woes aside.

The main trouble is this:

Nor is Trump’s conviction likely to hurt him in the polls; none of his legal woes have made the slightest dent in his popularity thus far.

Even before the verdict was announced, POLITICO was admitting the Democratic Party’s worst fears.
