Top Spymasters Raise Dire Warning About China
“The People’s Republic of China represents the defining threat of this generation this era,” says FBI Director Christopher Wray.
“China stealing technology secrets — from AI to computing and biology, ‘Five Eyes’ intelligence leaders warn,” reported Scott Pelley for CBS News yesterday.
Those unfamiliar with the “Five Eyes” can hardly be faulted for their ignorance: The Five have never appeared in public together for an interview before and the secrecy of the group is legendary.
The “Five Eyes” is an international intelligence alliance comprising five English-speaking nations: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Born out of the post-World War II era, this clandestine network has been shrouded in secrecy for decades, operating as a major force in global intelligence gathering.
Based on the principles of trust, intelligence sharing, and cooperation, the alliance primarily focuses on signals intelligence (SIGINT) and surveillance, with a particular emphasis on electronic eavesdropping. In theory, information gathered is shared among the member nations, enhancing their collective capabilities to monitor and combat global threats such as terrorism, cybercrime, and espionage.
