Time to Stop Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud?

Loose talk costs elections.

If former President Donald Trump (R) triumphs over Vice President Kamala Harris (D) on Election Day in November, there will be no shortage of scapegoating by major media outlets.

Democratic Party analysts, politicos, and progressive journalists will have plenty of blame to spread around. The unanswerable questions and endless armchair quarterbacking will be abject and pointless.

Should Democrats have replaced President Joe Biden on the ticket after his disastrous debate performance in June?

Why did Biden agree to debate in the first place — and why so early in the election cycle?

Should the Democratic Party have allowed their voters to primary instead of fast-tracking Kamala Harris to circumvent the process?

Of course, if Harris prevails in two short weeks, Democrats will be congratulating themselves and Republicans will be soul-searching.

But if the election were held today, most reliable metrics predict a Trump win. Anything can, and frequently does, happen in the run-up to Election Day, and the race may still be Kamala Harris’s to lose. Polls aren’t as dependable as once they were, after all.
