Our 32nd International Mayors Conference in Israel was a gigantic success!
Unfortunately, we are currently living in an era where Israel is being represented far too negatively by the global media.
Thankfully, our conference enables future leaders of their countries to see Israel and what it has achieved in a much more positive light.
This important event gathered mayors from over 30 nations to Israel and promoted solidarity with Israel and Jewish people worldwide.
Every year, the mayors who have attended this conference have been prominent leaders in their home countries and this year was no different.
Among the 2018 attendees were: Nayib Bukele, the Mayor of San Salvador and frontrunner for President of El Salvador and Francis Suarez, the Mayor of Miami and a rising star in American politics, Gabriel Groisman, Mayor of Bal Harbour, Florida, Bryan Barnett, Mayor of Roxhester Hills, MI, Adriana Krnacova, the rising star Mayor of Prague.
Some of the Mayors came from countries where anti-Semitism is a growing concern, so being able to connect with these leaders and teach them about the wonderful accomplishments of the Jewish people was a wonderful experience.
Not only was this an outstanding way to combat worldwide anti-Semitism, it was also a highly effective way to counter the attempted delegitimization of Israel and the “Boycott, Divest and Sanctions” (BDS) movement.
Our conference provided these prominent and future leaders of their countries an opportunity to see the REAL Israel.
While in Israel, we met with numerous Israeli leaders and visited Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other parts of Israel. We showed our Mayors Israeli innovation in areas like technology and infrastructure so they can use it to help improve the lives of their citizens. We took our mayors on a powerful tour of Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center and they visited historic sites like the Western Wall in Jerusalem as well.
As Vice President of the American Jewish Congress, I was unbelievably proud to be part of a delegation that included American Jewish Congress President Jack Rosen and Secretary Dr. Ben Chouake. The conference showed numerous important leaders from around the world what Israel is really all about, while illustrating the positive impact it can make on the lives of so many people on a global level is something I will cherish forever.
