Has the hyper-partisan news media model reached its natural conclusion?
Online and around water coolers all over America, the news is coming down: Two powerful media voices, two hyper-partisan news shows, two media personalities — CNN’s Don Lemon and FOX’s Tucker Carlson — are out at their respective networks.
“Tucker Carlson has left Fox News,” announced Semafor earlier today.
“FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways,” according to a press release from the network. “We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor. Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday April 21. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 PM/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.”
Ostentatiously absent from the release was any mention of the Dominion lawsuit Fox News Media Corp. settled last week for a cool billion dollars.
“Tucker Carlson’s Fox News Exit Not a Part of Dominion Settlement, Sources Say,” reported The Wrap on April 24, 2023. “Rupert Murdock made the decision, which was related to a former producer’s discrimination lawsuit, the Los Angeles Times reported.”
