With Democrats in the wilderness and Republicans united behind President Trump, can anything derail his cabinet picks?

“Democrats Have a New Leader but Haven’t Come to Grips With Failure,” Molly Ball pointed out for the Wall Street Journal this week. “Cracks emerge as party confronts deep unpopularity; ‘we utilize identity to break ourselves apart.’”

In a piece of journalism sure to rankle progressives, Ball was unsparing: “Many Democrats lately are asking the same question — and skeptical that their party has what it takes. As they despairingly watch President Trump dismantle the federal government, reverse decades of policy, and attack all they hold dear, the opposition party is reeling, demoralized, and at a loss for how to respond.”

With the “Democratic brand in the toilet,” Democratic Party leaders are struggling with how to move forward.

Meanwhile, a triumphant President Donald Trump and his growing Washington cohort are going gangbusters on Capitol Hill.

Several of President Trump’s cabinet picks have already been confirmed. Newly-minted Secretary of State Marco Rubio cruised through his confirmation hearing, enjoying a rare moment of widespread bipartisan support.
