Inclement weather or not, Republican Party primary candidates see Iowa as make or break.

Who’s On Track For The GOP Nomination?” wondered G. Elliott Morris, Katie Marriner, and Aaron Bycoffee for Five Thirty Eight yesterday.

It’s an excellent question. And soon, Republican Party voters will give pollsters and political prognosticators the answer. But until then, the 2024 presidential campaign speculation Super Bowl is in full swing.

With former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie out of the race this week, the Republican Party primary field has narrowed.

Christie, though he is a strong candidate, an accomplished lawmaker, and a respected Republican, unfortunately never managed to get his campaign to take off.

“Campaigns are run to win,” the former NJ Governor told a crowd of his campaign supporters this week. “That’s why we do them. It’s clear to me tonight that there isn’t a path for me to win the nomination.”

The Republican Party primary field might be poorer for losing Christie, but the winnowing of candidates down to a more manageable number may be helpful.

Especially when it comes to beating Donald Trump for the nomination — something which Christie himself sees as his foremost duty.
