Post-Primary Loss, Cori Bush Kicks the Squad On Her Way Out

Rep. Bush left the House Progressive “Squad” worse than she found it after an embarrassing primary defeat on Tuesday.

“Missouri U.S. Rep. Cori Bush has lost the Democratic primary for the state’s 1st Congressional District seat, according to a race call from The Associated Press,” reported Jason Rosenbaum for NPR on Tuesday.

“Bush was ousted by St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell, who was backed by pro-Israel groups,” added Rosenbaum.

And with that, Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), a prominent progressive voice in Congress, is out after a tough primary challenge following the surprising defeat of her close ally, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), last month.

Bowman’s loss to a more moderate Democrat sent shockwaves through the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, raising concerns about the viability of its agenda in the face of growing opposition from centrist forces.

Now that Rep. Cori Bush has followed suit, party progressives are even more nervous. Rep. Bush’s inflammatory “concession speech” after her Tuesday loss did nothing to assuage such fears.
