The Democratic Party has a leadership crisis. Will Dems double down on identity politics and retreat into partisanship or change course?

The Democratic Party’s leadership crisis: ‘Don’t know’ and ‘Nobody’ outpolls polls,” David Paleologos fretted for USA TODAY last week.

“The Democratic Party has a leadership crisis in 2025,” Paleologos worried bleakly.

“Don’t take my word for it, we polled the question last week,” he explained. “When asked to name the leader of the Democratic Party, nearly half of all registered voters nationally in our Suffolk University/USA TODAY couldn’t name a person or volunteered ‘Nobody.’”

The results of the poll reflected very poorly on the current state of Democratic Party leadership.

“Don’t Know” accounted for 30% of responses. “Nobody” was second place at 19%. Vice President Kamala Harris polled a paltry 10% after her embarrassing November loss to Donald Trump.

Other Democrats were even less popular: Hakeem Jeffries: 9%. Barack Obama: 8%. Gavin Newsom, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer: 3%. President Joe Biden: 2%. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: 2%. George Soros, Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, and John Fetterman: 1%.
