In our age of hyper-aware political correctness, Memorial Day — long a cornerstone of American tradition — is suddenly getting noticed for all the wrong reasons.
Perhaps it’s only natural: Nothing could be less politically correct than war.
By its very nature, war stands in stark contrast to the principles of political correctness that guide modern discourse. In an era where language and behavior are meticulously scrutinized to avoid offense, the brutal realities of war remain as raw and unfiltered as ever — perhaps more so.
The concept of war defies the ideals of diplomacy, inclusivity, and respect that are central to politically correct thinking, highlighting the inherent contradictions and harsh truths of human conflict.
Whatever its detractors think, political correctness usually seeks to promote equality, prevent discrimination, and foster a culture of mutual respect. War, however, is an arena where these values are trampled.
