The announcement came Friday that North Korea may very well be on the path to de-nuclearization.

If this actually happens, it would be the most meaningful move towards world peace since the end of the Cold War under Ronald Reagan.

Reagan worked with Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev to ensure the Cold War ended without a single shot being fired by either side.

Reagan called it peace through strength, and Trump seems to be on the verge of picking up where the Gipper left off.

This should have been the biggest story in the world, and even one that democrats would celebrate, despite ideological differences.

Instead, the democrats somehow found a way to focus on something else: a lawsuit against the Trump campaign, Wikilaks, and the Russian government for supposed “collusion” in the 2016 presidential election.

First, as far as I was aware, that was the entire purpose of the Mueller probe. We have been told over and over again that Mueller needs to be given space to do his job and not be interfered with.

So what exactly is the point of this lawsuit?

I will answer my own question: for the democrats to grandstand to their base and hopefully draw donations.

Because otherwise, Mueller’s investigation means nothing since if he does not find proof of collusion, it proves there was not enough evidence to make such a claim stick. And if he does find something, then criminal proceedings and impeachment hearings can begin.

But under no circumstances does this lawsuit wash as anything more than the cheap publicity stunt that it so obviously is.

If the democrats want to keep focusing on Russia rather than issues that actually matter to people — like the economy, the wars, etc…. — then by all means, they should keep doing what they are doing.

Most analysts believe it is virtually guaranteed the democrats take the House in November. But if they keep this up? They may not. Or, at the very least, they will make it a lot tougher on themselves than they needed to.

Meanwhile, despite his foul mouth and strange Twitter tirades, the president continues working on major issues. With the tax code overhaul finished, the individual mandate for Obamacare revoked, and potential peace between North and South Korea within striking distance, the president so many love to hate is getting things done, like it or not.

The democrats may beat his party later this year, anyway.

But the more they spend their time on nonsense like Russia rather than issues like jobs, the more likely it is that the size of that blue wave shrinks, if even just a little bit.
