Last American Hostage Freed By Hamas
After enduring 584 days at the hands of his torturers, Edan Alexander is finally free. Will the remaining hostages soon follow?
“Hamas to release Israeli-American hostage as gesture to Trump,” announced Barak Ravid for Axios on May 11, 2025. “Hamas said Sunday it will release Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander, who has been held for over 550 days, as part of an effort to reach a ceasefire deal and resume humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza.”
“Alexander is the only living American citizen among the 59 hostages being held by Hamas,” explained Ravid. “Only 21 of those hostages are known to still be alive, and the condition of three others isn’t clear.”
“I am happy to announce that Edan Alexander, an American citizen who has been held hostage since October 2023, is coming home to his family,” U.S. President Donald Trump said in a statement posted to Truth Social on May 11, 2025.
“I am grateful to all those involved in making this monumental news happen,” added President Trump. “This was a step taken in good faith towards the United States and the efforts of the mediators — Qatar and Egypt — to put an end to this very brutal war and return ALL living hostages and remains to their loved ones. Hopefully, this is the first of those final steps necessary to end this brutal conflict. I look very much forward…
