Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom Facing Tough Questions About Competency
If progressive policies hurt the people they are designed to help, are they really progressive?
With major wildfires transforming huge swaths of California into a devastated wasteland, California Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass are facing a growing clamor of criticism from right and left.
“With her city in flames, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass’ political future hangs in the balance,” Julia Wick admitted for the Los Angeles Times on January 13, 2025.
“Apocalyptic fires had been ravaging Los Angeles for more than 24 hours when Mayor Karen Bass stepped off a plane and into a now-viral encounter that may come to define her mayoralty,” explained Wick. “As an Irish reporter who happened to be on her flight hurled questions at her, the mayor of the nation’s second-largest metropolis stood silent and seemingly paralyzed.”
Mayor Bass was asked the following questions: “Do you owe citizens an apology for being absent while their homes were burning?”; “Do you regret cutting the fire department budget by millions of dollars, Madame Mayor?” and “Have you nothing to say today?”
To all three questions, Bass answered nothing.
