Pressure has been mounting on U.S. elected officials to address China’s suspiciously short wait lists for organ transplants.

In most developed nations, the United States included, organ transplant wait times are almost always measured in months and years.

Some people wait forever for an organ transplant and never get one. To even qualify for an organ transplant in nations like the U.S., candidates must submit themselves to a suite of rigorous pre-qualifying tests, interviews, and prep classes.

Healthy human organs suitable for transplant are so rare and precious, the interview process must be robust. A successful organ transplant is a long and extremely arduous process. Mental health, physical fitness, family support, financial considerations, the commitment to a lifetime of medication; organs are so scarce, doctors and surgeons must go to great lengths to make sure the years spent on the transplant list weren’t in vain.

In China, wait times for organ transplants can be measured in weeks. Recently, pressure has been mounting for U.S. officials to address the gruesome issue.

“China’s Forced Organ Harvesting Demands US Response,” begged Nina Shea in an article for Real Clear Politics on September 1, 2022.
