Ignore the Nattering Media Nabobs: Biden’s Debate Performance Was Fine
The sky isn’t falling, but newspapers aren’t going to sell themselves.
The way the legacy press piled onto President Joe Biden after Thursday night’s debate, it was almost as if they prepared all those hot takes, scathing criticisms, and gloomy naysaying in advance.
Media outlets and the network personalities who populate fading landscapes from the Washington Post to CNN barely waited for both candidates to leave the debate stage before unleashing an avalanche of cheap potshots at President Joe Biden.
“Dems freak out over Biden’s debate performance: ‘Biden is toast,’” wrote Lisa Kashinsky, Adam Cancryn, and Eugene Daniels for POLITICO. “One prominent operative texted: ‘Time for an open convention.’”
“All Joe Biden needed to do was deliver a repeat performance of his State of the Union address,” they grumbled. “Instead, he stammered. He stumbled. And, with fewer than five months to November, he played straight into Democrats’ worst fears — that he’s fumbling away this election to Donald Trump.”
