In what is sure to go down in history as one of the strangest sagas in Congress, Rep. George(?) Santos(?) (R?-NY?) has been expelled by his peers.

“George Anthony Devolder Santos, aka George Santos, is the US representative for New York’s 3rd congressional district, serving since 2023. Santos has no business being in Congress. He is a colossal liar.” (Photo: DonkeyHotey)

In a surprise move that would have seen them branded enemies of democracy under any other circumstances, 311 members of Congress voted today to expel a duly elected Congressman from their midst.

Indicted Republican lawmaker George Santos expelled from US House,” reported Makini Brice and Richard Cowan for Reuters today.

“Indicted Republican George Santos’ brief career in the U.S. House of Representatives came to an end on Friday when fellow lawmakers voted to expel him over criminal corruption charges and accusations of misspending campaign money,” began the pair. “The House voted 311–114 to immediately remove the controversial freshman lawmaker, above the two-thirds majority required to oust one of its own.”

“Besieged by revelations of lies about his past, a federal criminal indictment, and a congressional ethics probe, Santos, 35, became only the sixth member to be expelled from the House,” noted Brice and Cowan. “The New York congressman was the first to be kicked out without having fought for the Confederacy or being convicted of a crime.”

Rep. George Santos* (*possibly not his real name.) lost his seat in Congress on December 1, 2023, after his colleagues, Republican and Democrat, voted to oust him. And that’s about where official, verified knowledge of the political career of George Santos ends.

Almost everything else, including his name, has since his election to Congress in 2022, been gradually moved to the “unknown” column.

His known aliases over the years have included Anthony Devolder, Kitara Ravach, George Devolder, Anthony Zabrovsky, and Délio — among others. George Santos may or may not have lived for a time in Brazil as a drag performer named Kitara.

Even his Wikipedia page is a symphony of falsehood, confusion, and outright hilarity.

“George Anthony Devolder Santos (/ˈsæntoʊs, ˈsɑːn-/ SAN-tohss, SAHN-tohss; Brazilian Portuguese: [ˈsɐ̃tus]; born July 22, 1988) is an American former politician who served as the U.S. representative for New York’s 3rd congressional district from January to…
