The results are in and the answer is clear: “Moderate House Democrats dramatically outperformed Harris.”

Since the election over a month ago, Democrats and media progressives have been desperately trying to pinpoint the reason or reasons for Vice President Kamala Harris’s spectacular loss to Donald Trump.

The central question is simple enough: Was it Harris’s full-throated endorsement of some of the progressive left’s more unpopular fringe ideas? Or was it Harris’s attempted last-minute lurch to the moderate center?

Did The Squad help Donald Trump win? Or was it Liz Cheney?

In both cases, media progressives very much hope it’s the latter, rather than the former.

What If Woke Isn’t Broke?” ventured David Freedlander hopefully for New York Magazine this week.

Characterizing the aftermath of the 2024 election as “The most bitter fight in politics is between the Democratic center and left,” Mr. Freelander, like so many other media progressives, is extremely hopeful that cultural backlash played no role in Democratic Party losses.
