Deepening Rifts Within Democratic Party Amid Israel/Hamas Conflict
The Democratic Party tug-of-war over the Israel/Hamas conflict is becoming a tightrope for President Joe Biden.
“Biden Navigates Divisions Over Gaza Inside the White House and Beyond,” reflected Erica L. Green sadly for the New York Times last week. “President Biden is facing deep anger over his solidarity with Israel among supporters and even from some staff members who have said they feel disenchanted with the president.”
With Thanksgiving over, attention in Washington and its environs is turning, as it naturally does every November, to Election Day; past, present, but mostly future.
With the U.S. economy suffering the slings and arrows of its post-Covid fortunes, stubbornly high inflation and double-digit mortgage rates aren’t the only potential campaign headaches Democratic Party prognosticators see ahead for President Joe Biden and company.
In Ukraine, the war against Russia is going about as well as could be expected — though with credible reports one week that the U.S. government is pressuring Ukrainian President Vlodomyr Zelensky to negotiate a peace treaty with Vladimir Putin and credible denials of same the following week.
But no conflict is causing more internal strife in the Democratic Party than the one between Israel…
