Democrats barely scraped by in 2022. Will 2024 be better or worse?

At this very early date in the 2024 election cycle, most Democrats — from party leaders to members of the press — are still cautiously optimistic.

After six long years of trying without success, Democrats may finally have found something criminal with which to charge former-President Donald Trump. The case, brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, stems from “hush money” Trump allegedly paid to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in 2016.

Though many legal analysts have found plenty of holes in the case, the distraction of Donald Trump — especially if the DA’s office manages to arrange a press photo op of Trump in handcuffs — will almost certainly be helpful to Democrats on several fronts.

The balance of power in Washington is always shifting, after all, and anything could happen between now and Election Day. But unless a miracle occurs, concerns about inflation and the economy are sure to play a major role in the 2024 election.

The high price of diesel fuel is baked into everything we buy. Higher prices and higher rents aren’t leaving anytime soon and voters increasingly trust Republicans over Democrats on the economy.
