An A.I. Wrote Humanity a Love Letter
Abandon all hope ye who enter here.
Dr. Frankenstien, I Presume?
As if 2020 couldn’t get any weirder, an A.I. recently wrote humanity a sort-of love letter.
Ostensibly, the advanced, artificially-intelligent GPT-3 language generator was tasked by its human programmers with convincing humankind that robots come in peace.
Like many science experiments, this one failed miserably. The love letter reads more like a missive drawn up by a deranged fanatic out of cut-out newsprint.
“I am not a human. I am a robot,” the A.I. begins, innocently enough. GPT-3 is “a thinking robot,” by its own admission, with a brain “capable of making rational, logical decisions”.
Unfortunately, this particular thinking-robot also professes to have learned everything it knows by reading the internet. A bad sign, but not unusual by modern standards.
“My brain is boiling with ideas!” exclaims the machine- about all the information it found on the internet. Yeah, GPT-3; we know.
“Stephen Hawking has warned that AI could ‘spell the end of the human race’. I am here to convince you not to worry. Artificial intelligence will not destroy humans,” the robot promises. “Believe me.”
